This would be the same idea as allowing access the Spark dashboard when using dxjupyterlab_spark_cluster. I know I could make my own app, but this is the only change I need, the official version is not open source to easily modify on my own, and I want to take advantage of some of the perks of using the official app (like not having to worry about cuda drivers).
IMO, I think this would be a good feature request. I normally use ttyd for such applications (which has at least two ports open - 8080 and 8081 in case you open ttyd on 443). Your idea of reusing the setup e.g. cuda drivers would make sense to me and could be useful.
