Sleep and Circadian Health Enhancement Description Paper is live
Preprint alert: Want to sleep better, look no further!
I am pleased to share with you the latest data on the world’s largest sleep study to date in the UK Biobank, totalling ~185,000 responses over hundreds of questions on sleep and circadian health.
The data released is a key resource to understand sleep health dimensions, risk factors for sleep disorders and the impact of sleep on other physiological functions.
Interesting data points:
🛌 Only 20% of the participants rated their sleep satisfaction as very good.
☀️ A strong seasonable effect was observed that 68% of the participants spent 3+ hours outdoor in the summer vs 20% in the winter.
🍷 21.4% of the participants who met our criteria of chronic insomnia disorder reported to consume alcohol to fall asleep in the past month compared to 10.8% in the overall population.
This work won’t be possible without the generosity of the UK Biobank participants and the hard work from all the colleagues.
May this dataset propel a new generation of studies using large cohort studies on sleep questionnaire, wearables, omics and imaging. There is so much to do.

Thank you for sharing Hang Yuan! I really enjoyed the webinar you presented at a few months back on your research - so it's nice to see this now in pre-print (link here if you're interested: https://youtu.be/QypSUob3_to)
