Suspicious Dates of Birth

How were the dates of birth recorded? Are there any screen shots of how this was entered by the participants?

I ask as we have some observations that would indicate a significant amount of participants are giving an incorrect date.

Cheers,

Phil

Can you confrm that on any particular day, the time slots allocated to participants were in date of birth order, youngest first?

    Dear Philip,

Thank you for your question. The date of birth for participants is obtained from their NHS records and participants are asked to confirm their date of birth at each assessment centre visit. Time slots for assessment centre visits are randomly allocated, after considering convenient times for the participant and logistics, and are not ordered by date of birth.

Date of birth is a restricted field and is not provided to researchers unless there is a strong justification for it, and researchers are recommended to use the month (data-field 52) and year of birth (data-field 34) instead. I would request you to email our Access team (access@ukbiobank.ac.uk) with details of why you suspect that a significant amount of participants are giving an incorrect date and we can investigate this for you. Please make sure not to include any identifiable information while doing so. Please also include any further questions you may have.

    Kind regards,

    Aditi
