Hi, Can you please tell me if UKBB has and shares mitochondrial DNA sequence of participants? As a researcher in a private company, am I allowed to ask for the data? And how long does it take from the data request to access to data? Thank you very much.
Private companies can apply for access on the same basis as academic research institutes. Please note that there is a requirement to publish all findings, and constraints on what may be claimed as intellectual property.
The time from request to actual access is usually a few months. Much of that time is taken by the researcher's institute dealing with the necessary legal and financial implications (signing the Agreement MTA and paying the access fees). In 2021 it took on average 21 weeks, this time is reducing - see the graphic on see this page on the website https://www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/enable-your-research/apply-for-access.

UK Biobank has mitochondrial DNA sequencing data. See UKB Showcase https://biobank.ndph.ox.ac.uk/showcase/label.cgi?id=263 , where MT stands for mitochondrial.
