How long it takes to obtain access to the returned data via RAP? What is the procedure of applying for 100m/1km resolution grid data ?
Hello,
As a student researcher with tier 3 access to UKB RAP, I have some questions regarding data access and procedures that are crucial for my project. I would greatly appreciate your assistance in clarifying these matters.
- Data Access Timeline: I have applied for access to returned data via RAP through the Data Team UKB for some time. However, I have not received any information regarding the timeline for when this data will be available in my RAP. Understanding the estimated timeline is crucial for the progress of my research. Could anyone kindly provide some insight into how long it typically takes to obtain access to the requested data?
- Location Data Resolution: My project requires location data, and I'm uncertain if the application procedures differ when applying for 100m resolution grid data compared to 1km resolution grid data. To ensure that I follow the correct procedure and acquire the relevant data for my research, could you please clarify if there are any distinctions in the application process for these two different resolutions?
Thank you very much!

For 1km resolution, please email access@ukbiobank.ac.uk with your application number and the field IDs you wish to access. We will pass your request to our Data Analysts who can arrange for these fields to be made available to you. Please be aware that this will prevent you receiving other home location data (e.g. local authority area) as access to both of these types of data can locate some of our participants to a very fine resolution.
Access to 100m home location co-ordinates requires approval by UK Biobank's Scientific Team. To request access, please email access@ukbiobank.ac.uk with a detailed rationale for the use of 100m home location data and the reasons why 1km resolution is insufficient for your research. We will then send your request for review by our Scientific team.
1 - The 100m grid coordinate data is released on a separate application, and is not added to your standard application. We recommend if you intend to access this you contact the Access team directly - access@ukbiobank.ac.uk - who can advise you on timelines and any other restrictions on data you will be able to access.
2 - The review process for accessing the 100m grid coordinates can vary due to the nature of individual applications and the reasons/need for access. I recommend that you contact the Access team to discuss and they can advise of likely timelines.
