Can I request an instance that theoretically has less disk space than the size of a snapshot that I would like to mount? If it does make any difference I would like to know the answer both for could workstations and JupyterLab. I would be particularly interested in knowing if I may incur in hidden additional costs without realising it.

I don't think this is possible in either scenario. Just like your computer need to have more storage than size of OS program.
What might be your concern for hidden cost?

Thank you, Chai. That makes sense. I was concerned that the system might have recognised the mismatch in resources and automatically reverted to a bigger instance.
