Finding ATC codes for prescription data
Dear Community,
I have downloaded the precription record from UK Biobank, specifically the Record Table 1062 which refers to GP prescription records. In our research we are trying to extract the drug substances from these entries using ATC codes. In the column with Drug Names sometimes there is the drug substance available sometimes not. Also we cannot find any direct mapping of BNF codes to ATC codes. Are you aware of any mapping method of the GP prescription data to ATC codes? Or should we use another field from the data bank to extract prescription record of patients with ATC codes? Thank you a lot for the attention and input.
Kind regards,
Kleanthi

Unfortunately we don’t have any mappings for BNF codes to ATC codes. It looks like the NHS TRUD website may contain some mappings between BNF/ATC and the dm+d system, but we can’t provide any guidance about these. Please also note that the GP prescription data is coded using several different systems including dm+d and READ codes. Resource 591 has more information. The code mappings we have available are provided in Resource 592.
