Unable to refresh RAP data due to "project not eligible for updates"

Elby MacKenzie

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to update/refresh the UKB data available in my RAP project, in order to have access to Data Release v19 which was released today. The email that was sent out today states that “You now have the option to refresh your data to the latest version (v19) without creating a new project space” and the docs (https://dnanexus.gitbook.io/uk-biobank-rap/getting-started/data-structure/updating-dispensed-data) also point out that it should be possible to simply hit a button on the Settings page of the project to “Check for updates”.

However, when the admin for this project signs in to their account, the “Check for updates” button is greyed out, and hovering over it displays the following message : "The data version in this project is not eligible for updates. To dispense the latest data version, delete this project and create a new project."

For various reasons, we prefer not to have to delete and re-create a project. How can we simply update the data in our existing project?

Thanks,
Elby

    Hi Elby,

Only version 18 data can be Refreshed to version 19.  It will not be possible to use the Refresh option for any other version of data, such as v1 - v17 or any dispense done for a legacy Tier-0 project.    I apologise for the confusion.

It is possible to create a new project before deleting the current one.   When you have both projects active, it will be possible to copy any files you need from the old project to the new project using the dx copy command in the dx toolkit .

The dx commands can be used in a JupyterLab $_ terminal or in a ttyd app from the Tools tab, and the dx toolkit is already installed there.

Thank you for using the forum.

I see, thanks for the explanation. Is there somewhere I can see what data version my project currently has?

For recent projects, that could never have been on the legacy Tier 0 system, it is possible to work out the project's current UKB-RAP version by comparing the date in the name of the Dataset Record Type item (the one you click to get to the Cohort Browser) with the dates in this page that shows all the UKB-RAP versions https://dnanexus.gitbook.io/uk-biobank-rap/getting-started/data-structure/data-release-versions  .

A project that has been dispensed to an Application-ID that was Tier 1 at the time of dispense will contain all the Tier 1 data that was available at that time.   A project that was dispensed to an Application-ID that was Tier 0 at the time of dispense will contain only the data fields that had been specifically requested in the old Basket system.    If you can see Basket contents in the UKB Access Management System (AMS), then your project may have been Tier-0 at some point in the past.

Any project that has a 6-digit Application-ID counts as recent.   Projects earlier than about App-ID 90000 may have started as Tier 0 .  Projects earlier than about 5000 would definitely have started as Tier 0.  The project's Principal Investigator would probably know whether the App-ID has been upgraded recently from Tier 0 to Tier 1-3, as there would have been an additional cost payment.

If you can't find the answer in your case, it is possible to Submit a Request (top right of this page) and the UKB Access team will be able to tell you.  However, please note that the Access team are always particularly busy after an update, so you might not get an answer as quickly as you would normally expect.
