Dispensing new data to existing application

Julia Oakley

This is probably a stupid question but how much does it cost to dispense data to a new project in an existing application?

I have just started using the RAP and need data that's only in the latest release, but refreshing the existing data could interfere with some of my colleagues' analyses. I have seen the articles suggesting that new data can be dispensed to a new project without affecting the project that uses the older data, but I can't see anything about fees for that.

    Hi Julia,

There is no charge for storing UK Biobank data that has been dispensed to a project, thanks to the generous support of Amazon Web Services (AWS).   See https://www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/use-our-data/fees/#:~:text=Note%3A%20There%20is%20no%20charge,of%20Amazon%20Web%20Services%20(AWS)

This is true for a second dispensed project as well as for the first dispensed project.

Note that there will be additional admin tasks required, such as removing withdrawn participants.  Note also that there is potential for collaborators to get confused and use the wrong project, so it is a good idea to give the projects meaningful names.     Please consult your Principal Investigator about whether a second project is the best way to go.

    Hi Rachael,

Thank you, that's really helpful. We've already set up a separate project because my analysis is slightly different from the others, so there should be no confusion and I can remove the withdrawn participants before I start creating the new cohorts. I will ask my PI to dispense the data.
