On or just after Monday 23rd June, DNAnexus will be enabling two factor authentication as a requirement for all researchers to log into the UKB-RAP to provide additional security to the platform.
What is 2FA?
2FA adds an extra layer of security. After entering your password, you’ll also need to enter a code generated by an app like Google Authenticator. This code changes every 30 seconds and can only be used once.
With two-factor authentication protecting your account, your data will be protected even in the case that both your username and password are stolen. No attacker will be able to access your account without the two-factor authentication code.
Once DNAnexus has made this a mandatory feature it will not be able to be disabled by the researcher.
What you need to do
To avoid any disruption, we recommend setting up 2FA before 23rd June. Here’s how:
-
Go to account security
Click your avatar in the top right corner of the platform, then select Account Security. -
Enable 2FA
Click Enable 2FA and follow the steps to set up a third-party authenticator app.- We recommend Google Authenticator (free on iOS and Android). Get it on Google Play or from the Apple iTunes App Store.
- If you don’t use a smartphone, you can use other apps that support the TOTP standard on tablets or computers.
-
Save your backup codes
After setup, you’ll get backup codes. These can be used if you lose access to your authenticator app.- Store them safely.
- If you lose both your app and backup codes, contact DNAnexus Support.
If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact - ukbiobank-support@dnanexus.com.
